I was puttering around on the Internet this morning and I saw something that caught my eye. It was the latest data regarding our current life expectancy as humans from the World Health Organization, along with a history of how that's changed over the years.

This info went all the way back to the Neanderthal period (the guys from the Geico commercials) up to present day humans. Those poor Geico guys only lived to be 20 years old on average, while today's humans can expect about 75 years of life.

But did you know that today's people have an average healthy life expectancy of just 67 years? In other words, this is saying that you can expect 8 years of your life in poor health. 8 years! That's 2900+ days of poor health. I don't know about you, but that's not something I'm looking forward to.

I sure think we can do better than 67 years of good health on this planet. And you know what? We can. This number is an average. Like anything else, you don't have to be average if you don't want to be. The average person doesn't exercise properly, if at all. The average person doesn't know how to make the right foods selections and maintain a healthy diet. The average person doesn't apply themselves mentally and emotionally to maintain relatively stress free living.

If this sounds a little bit too much like you, the good news is you don't have to be this person any longer. While it is a shame that today's health, fitness, and diet industry is simply confusing more people than it's helping, there are a few people and organizations out there that can provide a realistic, effective and efficient approach to breaking past the average healthy life span and living those years full of energy, strength, and vitality.

I get questions from my Fat Burning Furnace readers all the time, after going through the materials, about how they can't believe how little exercise I recommend. And even though I've told them up front that they can let go of the aerobics or traditional cardio, many still have trouble doing that. And what I tell them is directly related to the subject of life expectancy and just how much time we really have in our lives.

I tell them that having a lean, strong, and healthy body is great. It's one of the most important things we can attain. Period. But, how much time is it worth to you? That's the question I asked myself over and over when seeking out my own methods and developing the methods.

Most people, after years and years of trial and error, come to realize that spending several days and hours a week working out is just not worth the trouble. And carefully measuring your food, counting calories, and depriving yourself of nutrient rich foods like whole grain carbohydrates is also something that shouldn't be necessary to enjoy a healthy and energy filled life. And it isn't.

What we really should be focusing on is how much time and effort is minimally required to get the results we're looking for. Think about that. Not how much, but how much is minimally required. Remember, we've got just 67 healthy years as a starting point...If I valued my time on this planet, this is what I would be searching for.

If it really took hours and hours a week and all of that crazy nutrition manipulation to burn fat, build muscle, strength, and cardiovascular health, I'm not sure I'd do it. Not for very long anyway. I've tried that approach, for years, and if you have you know it's no fun. And it's just not realistic given the demands our lives place on us in today's world.

But as I've mentioned before, you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff anymore. The principles in my system allow you to approach your genetic potential for a lean, strong, and healthy body in just minutes each week and with very simple lifestyle changes.

I've been using the principles for a while now. I work out twice each week. I even take a week off entirely every few weeks or so. I don't count calories. I don't deprive myself of the foods I love. If it's my daughter's birthday, I eat a piece of cake. I just work the FBF principles and continue to stay in great shape day after day, week after week, year after year.

I work out so little because of the way the workouts are performed and created, and I eat with such flexibility because I stick with the lifestyle, which gives you the power of flexibility and variation that is lacking in most programs.

What I'm saying is that I've discovered what is minimally required to give me the health and body that I wanted. And many of my students are doing it as well. Sure I could add another day a week to my workouts, but at this point it would actually be detrimental to my results. I could also start messing with my diet in all sorts of crazy ways, but that would just make my body angry and cause me unneeded stress.

So, I ask you, are you trying to find what's minimally required to get you the results you want? If you truly value your time and the other worthy pursuits in your life, I'm suggesting that this is exactly what you should be doing. If you don't, you may just end up being an average 67 year old with 8 years of poor health to look forward to.

Finding The Root Cause Of Hair Loss

Men with shiny patches of skin on the scalp have become a common sight. Evidence suggests though that women may also be common victims of hair loss. It is perhaps because of this equal tendency for baldness that both men and women are becoming increasingly interested in understanding the cause of hair loss.

Hair Cycle

It is natural to lose several strands of hair in a single day. In the usual hair cycle, 80%-90% of hair strands are in the anagen or growing phase. The rest of the 10%-20% of hair strands are in the sleeping phase.

These hair strands normally get ready to be shed by thinning in the catagen phase and eventually falling off during the telogen phase. This is not the cause of hair loss that we should be worried about because hair normally grows back after a natural cycle.

Male Hair Loss

The cause of men's hair loss may be due to more than one factor. The most common cause of hair loss however involves genetics and hormone levels. It is known that at least 95% of hair loss in men is linked to no other cause of hair loss than androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male pattern baldness. This inherited condition results in a growing bald area on top of the head and a receding hairline.

Androgenetic alopecia is the result of having too much of a testosterone byproduct called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT may actually be beneficial in younger, growing males but too much of it in adults can be a cause of hair loss. DHT can be a cause of hair loss by attaching to hair follicles and cutting off the blood supply. Hair follicles therefore begin to shrink, making the growth of new hair strands impossible.

Female Pattern Baldness

Baldness may be less obvious and less severe in women. However, there is a condition called female pattern baldness that is so common that 1 in 4 women have it. The reason why it may not be obvious in women is that female pattern baldness does not result in whole patches of hair falling off. Instead, female baldness is characterized by thinning areas near the front of the scalp or hairline or generally thinning hair on the entire scalp. In most cases, strands of hair still remain on females with female pattern baldness.

There seems to be no set age for female baldness to begin but just like in males, the main cause of hair loss in women stems from genetic and hormonal factors. It seems that estrogen imbalances in females may be the main cause of hair loss.

For example, women who have recently given birth may experience thinning hair. However, they may eventually regain lost hair when their estrogen levels stabilize again. Women who are undergoing menopause however and women under hormone therapy may experience more enduring cases of hair loss. Hormone therapy with progesterone for example may be a cause of hair loss in women since the hormone blocks the development of follicles.

If you were to open any womens magazine which you saw displayed at the bookstore or at the airport news rack you would only need to flick a few pages to come face to face with societies obssesion with cellulite. I am confident in it's pages you would find either an ad, feature article or most likely a photo of the latest maturing celebrity with cellulite.But this behaviour makes no sense whatsoever.

But why is it such a big deal, what is cellulite?

A simple description would be for cellulite "a lumpy substance resembling cottage cheese that is commonly found on the thighs, stomach, and butt." Cellulite is actually a fancy name for collections of fat that push against the connective tissue beneath a person's skin, which causes the surface of the skin to dimple or pucker and look a little lumpy"

Inspite of most peoples belief both women and men of all ages can have cellulite. This effect when seen in young baby will cause adoration will lead to horror when see in the mirror by most women. Trash mags and celebrity photo mags take an almost mischevious delight in displaying across their pages pictures of celebrities photographed with powerful zoom lenses showing the orange peel like skin around their legs and butt of the latest celebrity as if it was some sort of serious illness.

You'll notice in your drug store and online hundreds of creams, lotions and all manner of potions to rid ourselves of the legs and thighs of this dimpling effect called cellulite. All of which claim to resolve the problem.

What many people so easily ignore out of choice or ignorance there is a very simple solution for cellulite elimination and preventing it in the first place in a word, EXERCISE! that's right In most cases, regular exercise such as biking or walking will rid you of cellulite and tone your legs and bottom better than any cream, lotion or other method ...

It's a bit of down side having to actually do something to get rid of cellulite I know. But on the huge plus side you'll get fitter and live longer so that's got to be a plus.

People obsess over the result or you prefer the end result, not the cause or the neglect that actually lead to poor health. This is not saying that everyone should expect a perfectly toned body at any age, but certainly keeping yourself healthy is an sensible choice.

It's important to understand that cellulite is NOT a disease and not even an unhealthy characteristic of the body. This is very much contrary to what all the womens magazines and skin care manufacturers would have you believe.

Simply walking for half and hour every day will do more for your self-confidence and overall feeling of health than any magic cream or lotion or those increasingly popular electric muscle stimulators. If you found time like I did to read research about cellulite, it is very simply fatty tissue that is not generally unhealthy in its self (unless you also have too much body fat overall) and really no different from ordinary fat any where else on the body.

Which ever topical product you apply or nutritional supplement you choose to take or device you try or even spa treatment you pay for they all come with little or no guarantee of success. You should also heed the fact that few of these products have been tested for safety and most are pretty much ineffective. You still can't beat simple exercise and healthy eating regimen to get rid or unwanted surplus fat anywhere on the body.

You must not forget your body shape and the way it disperses fat around the body is a genetic trait so if you get cellulite if all else fails just say your mom gave it to you.

A leading source for information about cellulite is the US National Library of Medicine which states:

- Stop Smoking if a smoker, and take regular exercise not forgetting to maintain a healthy weight without huge fluctuations. Drink plenty of fluids (ideally water) and consume at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

There is no need for concern about cellulite but with all those magazines bombarding you I expect you'll find that hard to accept.

Nearly 17 million people in the United States have acne, which makes it one of the most common skin diseases. Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults, and does not discriminate among races. Nearly 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 get acne at one time or another, some more than others. For most people, acne goes away by age 30. But some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.

We don't know the exact cause of how a pimple develops. What we do know is that the pore collapses on itself and blocks oil (sebum) from escaping. This causes the pore to become clogged and infected.
